Where Night Holds Light, The Buttless Chaps continue honing their sound into something so specific and special that it makes you wonder why synth-pop and alt.country ever tried to be two different genres in the first place. Whatever this sound is, it's warm and rich, and The Chaps are only getting better at it. Dave Gowans' "new wave cowboy" vocals have found a perfect companion in Great Aunt Ida's Ida Nilsen (apparently a full-fledged member now), who slots into the band like a missing puzzle piece. Add full, enveloping production and a Rheostatic or two, and the result is a laid-back summer evening of a record — like sitting reclined with your eyes open.
