Share @ CMW 2009

Live Review
Background / Composition:
This Halifax band recently completed a U.K. tour and play a typical brand of angular indie rock mixed with indie pop.

Grade: 79

Comment:
If you hear their name spoken aloud you shouldn't confuse them with that '60s diva, but a band with a penchant for Converse shoes and Steve Urkel shirts.

Strengths/Weaknesses/Next Step:
Share are pretty tight live and there's no doubt they've got a lot of experience on the road. But their set was pretty dull within the first few songs. Frontman AJP Sisk did engage in some good banter when he took the time to point out the amusing similarities in pronunciation between Share's name and that of Cher. It's funny because it's true that when you tell people Share are one of the acts you're watching at a CMW showcase, the look on their face can be pretty comical.

Strengths/Weaknesses/Next Step:
Share's music is pretty catchy, but the band don't really move around on stage. Save for a few jumps here and there from guitarist Nick Cobham, the band were pretty much static the entire night. The set highlight was when Sisk invited Jenn Grant, who was in the audience, up on stage to sing on one of their songs. Unfortunately, Grant's talents weren't used for anything else other than cooing into the mic.

Strengths/Weaknesses/Next Step:
Cobham was wearing an amazing Steve Urkel shirt, which actually had Urkel's face plastered on it. This drew tons of hollers of "Urkel!" from the crowd. Cobham's ridiculous moustache also made the band, who aside from himself looked like your typical cookie-cutter indie rockers, stick out.
