Live Review
- March 12, 2009
- Toronto, ON
- Horseshoe Tavern
- 4.5 / 5

Background/Composition:
Quest For Fire were pieced together with the remains of Cursed and The Deadly Snakes. The cover to their lone album has some sort of flaming goddess woman on it, which rather succinctly represents their sound.
Grade: 91
Comment:
It was unfortunate that 90 per cent of the Horseshoe's patrons decided to leave right before Quest For Fire took the stage. They missed an impressive hour of balls-out rock 'n' roll. Earplug use was rampant. There was also a kid in full punk regalia who kept pacing back and forth at the back of the stage area, looking like he might start a mosh at any moment.
Achievement of Rock 'n' Roll Expectations
80-100: Exceeds skill and knowledge expectations, i.e. rocked us so hard we peed our pants.
70-79: Achieves required skills and knowledge. Meets rock 'n' roll standard.
60-69: Demonstrates some skills. Approaches rock 'n' roll standard.
50-59: Demonstrates some required skills and knowledge in a limited way.
00-50: Has not demonstrated required skills or knowledge.
Learning Skills: E=Excellent, G=Good, S=Satisfactory, N=Sad Really
Oral And Visual Communication

Strengths/Weaknesses/Next Step:
There's no need to chat with the audience when you're sporting this level of thrash. They did say a quick hello or thank you here and there, but for the most part, Quest For Fire let their instruments do the talking.
Musical Analysis
Level Of Participation: E

Audience Participation: G
Sound: E
Composition: E
Songs: E
Strengths/Weaknesses/Next Step:
Quest For Fire have this classic-rock-meets-punk-and-metal thing down pat, and could substitute for Black Mountain on any night of the week. Their songs are epic — it wouldn't be out of their reach to make a full-length album with just three or four tracks. This was definitely the night's blow-your-mind showcase.

Strengths/Weaknesses/Next Step:
Bassist Josh Bauman looks like the kind of guy you want to play Satan in a TV movie: shifty eyes, shaved head and huge beard. He provides Quest For Fire with just the right amount of scary.
