Lily Allen — It's Not Me, It's You
- It's Not Me, It's You
- Capitol/EMI
- 1 / 5

Lily Allen has it all wrong. It's not you, it's her.
The sarcastic, witty, troublemaking woman from 2006's Alright, Still debut is gone and has been replaced by someone who'd rather moan about how people are fucking her over instead of singing about getting over it. It's Not Me, It's You's title is deceiving, as one would think Allen is still her sarcastic self, but she's anything but.
The ska-influenced pop tunes of her debut have been replaced with beats that sound like they came from a Dance '98 compilation. There are exceptions to this, but they're still way off the mark. "Not Fair" features spaghetti western guitar riffs and banjo parts that strangely sound exactly like those found in One Hundred Dollars' "Careless Love," which is a much better song.
Just when you thought It's Not Me, It's You couldn't get any worse, the opening piano melody on "Fuck You" is pretty much just a sped-up version of the opening piano melody on The Carpenters' "Close To You."
It's a shame Allen had to waste all her talent on one album, but that seems to be the case because there's next to nothing good about this record.
