Sometimes, it seems like bands purposely thrust themselves into a scene that has nothing to do with the music they make. Then the band stands out and seems "weird" or "different" when they're really just hocking the same old pop/rock to different clients. So while Incubus may feel that they're unique with this album, they're not. They're pushing out rather typical rock music with hints of hip-hop and funk, elements that are too subtle to redefine the end result. However, there's no argument over A Crow Left Of The Murder's sugary addictiveness. The album is overflowing with sweet harmonies and guitar riffs and beats that are edgy without being overbearing. What Simple Plan is to punk, so Incubus is to hard rock: a distant cousin that is more popular than the original.
