Inward Eye — Inward Eye EP

Music Review
Inward Eye's Inward Eye EP
Winnipeg's Erickson brothers — singer/bassist Dave, guitarist/vocalist Kyle and drummer Anders — impressed a lot of people when the music industry discovered them as teenagers earlier this decade. Clive Davis' J Records signed them three years ago, and this four-song, 14-minute EP is what they finally have to show for all that. The siblings don't wear their Who influences as obviously as they used to, but you can certainly pick out other acts they've borrowed from on this catchy-yet-muscular rock record. You can hear echoes of Alice Cooper's "School's Out" on "Shame." There are traces of Sweet, Teenage Head and Led Zeppelin along with Keith Moon-like drumming on "You Know I Know." But it's more worrisome that Dave sometimes allows annoying Raine Maida vocal mannerisms to sneak into his singing. The EP was produced by Arnold Lanni, who also produced the first four Our Lady Peace albums, so maybe he's to blame. The promise this trio first showed is still evident on this EP. Now they just have to take the next step and release a full album and tour relentlessly in support of it, because Inward Eye shine brightest on stage.
