Raising The Fawn — The Maginot Line

- 3 / 5

If it weren't for Broken Social Scene, Raising The Fawn might never had made it out of the basement, literally. BSS guitarist John Crossingham started this band as a solo project in his home, but was forced to spotlight it when BSS' fortunes took off. People were impressed with Raising The Fawn's swelling soundscapes, which managed to sound intimate and rockin' at the same time. Fortunately, Crossingham doesn't change course on the group's latest, The Maginot Line. The best track, "The Matador," features Crossingham's impressive falsetto, while "Nocturnal No. 1" is a one-minute acoustic number that could easily find a home on a Rick White album. Although The Maginot Line doesn't have many highs, it's still a pleasant album that shows Crossingham doesn't have to work part-time in BSS forever.
