Eric Clapton is known as the "consummate artist." His technical ability as a guitar player has always been regarded as one of the world's finest in the realm of rock. He is indeed a dinosaur having seen it all, done it all and played it all. On Reptile, ol' Slowhand treats his fans to the many areas of song styles he's visited over his lengthy career. This smorgasbord of songs contains the bluesy "Got You On My Mind" and "Come Back Baby." Next we have the dreaded adult contemporary songs like "Second Nature" and "Broken Down." There are a few surprises like a little bossa nova and ragtime, but regardless of the style of song, his inimitable vocal and playing style are painted throughout the tracks. Clapton has leveled out. Whether or not he gains new fans with this release is a non-issue — he is already firmly established as a legend so all that's left is his guitar.
