Eno first worked with Byrne when he produced Talking Heads' More Songs About Buildings And Food, Fear Of Music and Remain In Light albums, and the pair had a more proper collaboration on 1981's My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts. Eno had written the music that appears here as far back as eight years ago, but invited Byrne to contribute lyrics, vocal melodies and his distinctive voice. They brought in a number of musicians to fill things out and have described the resulting record's sound as "electronic gospel." It bears a passing resemblance to some of Byrne's and Talking Heads' mellower work, though "Poor Boy" gets a bit funkier. The acoustic "My Big Nurse," with its slight country twang, is the other change-up from the mature and melodic pop found throughout most of the album, including lead single/video "Strange Overtones." This isn't the best work that the two men have done together, but, 30 years on, it's still pretty damn good.
