The Raveonettes — Lust Lust Lust

Music Review
Lust Lust Lust
Pretty much every analysis of The Raveonettes contains some variation of the line "combines the Jesus And Mary Chain with girl-group harmonies" and Lust Lust Lust will do absolutely zero to change that. In fact, if anything, Raveonettes principals Sharin Foo and Sune Rose Wagner have actively embraced that notion on their fourth album to the point where it's pretty much become their official and defining "sound." Lead track "Aly, Walk With Me" certain makes a strong argument with pure noise layered over its slow, propulsive bass line. It's not nearly so overt as Darklands-copying "You Want The Candy," though. Elsewhere, "Sad Transmission" traps Gene Chandler's "Duke Of Earl" in visceral feedback swirl and "Lust" and "Black Satin" are especially beguiling with their wavery guitar riffs and particularly monotone deliveries. It's all wonderful. The worry now is that The Raveonettes have so perfectly distilled and refined what they do that the idea of them ever putting out another record seems redundant.
