If you're a regular Pitchfork reader, you're probably well aware of Norway's Serena Maneesh, whose debut was available only by import until now. The band members wear their My Bloody Valentine influence on their sleeves, pants and shoelaces. It's an influence that serves them well through the 11 tracks on this disc. "Drain Cosmetics" specifically wouldn't sound out of place on Loveless, but the entire album sounds like a dance punk inspired follow-up to MBV's seminal album. "Un-Deux" keeps the stoner rock turned up to high, but the latter half of the album errs more on the side of experimental. Despite some inconsistencies, theis album has more than enough bright spots to keep things interesting.
