Paul Weller — Catch Flame!

Modfather Paul Weller combines the themes from his two previous live albums, Live Wood and Days Of Speed, to create a two-hour live Weller love-fest. The results are mixed. The man has been at this for 30 years and knows all the tricks of the trade, yet the first CD of this double-disc set is a bit flat mainly due to the fact that he relies heavily on material from his last studio album, All Is Now. He mixes it up with some great songs from his 16-year solo career, including "Going Places" from 2001's Illumination and "The Changingman" from 1995's Stanley Road.
But the addition of classic songs from his Jam and Style Council days helps move this singular concert performance from the prairies of the first disc to the Rockies of disc two. There, Weller also thankfully changes tempo with some acoustic and Spanish guitar on Stanley Road's "You Do Something To Me," "Wish Upon A Star" from 2003's Studio 150 and his tour-de-force tale of working-class English life, "That's Entertainment."
