Given that MSI are like demigods to many angst-ridden teenage goths, it's kind of hard to guess how many of those fans will know that track four, "Tom Sawyer," is actually a freaky synth-thrash cover of a song by three Canadian guys. This type of melodramatic pretension is all over this album, and the music often sounds as mechanized as the constant synth beats. The lead singer's voice actually achieves Freddie Mercury pitches on the seething title track, and then dips into Marilyn Manson-like hissing tones on "Straight To Video." This transition between styles is more jarring than intriguing. You'll Rebel To Anything is intense and weird, yet increasingly obnoxious and ultimately as goth as a Hot Topic store.
