Boy Kill Boy's music is unmistakably British in the way that's in style right now, as perfected by bands like Bloc Party and The Futureheads: jangly, hooky and as jitter-inducing as 10 cups of coffee. Yet, somehow, it's still permeated by an aura of hipster cool. As in, you might be drawn to the dancefloor by a song like "Killer," but your hair will still look awesome at the end of it. Their sound is full, busy, and polished, though never completely out of its safe zone. However, BKB take this space and make the best of it, particularly with aptly-chosen first single "Civil Sin" — a manic little slice of synth-dominated indie pop, similar to opening track "Back Again." With Civilian, the quartet may not have remade the formula, but they've added their own touches and it's these subtle bits of individuality that stand out.
