Phil The Alien is definitely an absurd film, but it manages to play its subject matter just straight enough to keep from devolving into pure silliness. After his spaceship crashes on Earth, Phil shape shifts into human form. He soon develops a drinking problem and befriends a talking beaver. Eventually, he finds Jesus and joins a band to spread the word of the Lord by levitating and singing on stage. All the while, he's being chased by CIA agents in colour-coded fur coats who operate out of a secret base under Niagara Falls. It might sound like a lot of ridiculous elements to fit into one movie, but it actually makes for a smart and funny comedy with a sensibility that's similar to The Kids In The Hall.
