Regina-based indie outfit Sylvie have flown under the radar in recent years, despite of sharing stages with heavyweights like Wintersleep and Hot Hot Heat. Perhaps this is due to the unassuming nature of the band's sound. It's nice and polished and well thought out, but doesn't excel in any one area. This trend endures on the band's new full-length, Trees and Shade Are Our Only Fences, which continues on the same unassuming path. Some of the tracks recall The Weakerthans, while others recall Jimmy Eat World. Neither are really up to the standards of either of those two bands. I don't know — this album is really just OK and not much more.
