Still great popsmiths after all these years, Barenaked Ladies have come back with a strong record after taking a few years off following 2003's Everything To Everyone. Opening track "Adrift," a gentle, meandering number by Ed Robertson, nudges the door open for the driving single "Easy" and "Maybe You're Right," which is something of a BNL epic with distinct movements and full-fledged orchestration. "Peterborough And The Kawarthas" is a tender love song sheathed in a veil of Canadiana. Ending strongly with "Wind It Up," this record stands on its own two feet and doesn't rely on any kind of whimsy or pop culture buzzwords. Those kinds of things worked great for the BNL of the past, but they're tired now, so it's good to see they've confidently moved on.
