Kid Koala is growing up. Where jazz sampling and horn scratching were prominent on the DJ's last record, Your Mom's Favourite DJ (it's spelled Favorite on the top line) finally sees Koala getting comfortable with chunkier sampling by using loud rock guitar riffs, deep southern blues and even gospel. YMFDJ features Koala's most clever vocal samples, as he notably lifts the famous refrain from Kid Rock's "Bawitdaba" to intro himself on "Gimme A K!" and Gremlins hero Gizmo on "Dinner At 1:00 A.M." The second half of the album features soulful piano-based blues songs and Koala scratching up harmonicas, slide guitar and blues legends reminiscing about their first vinyl ("Nufonia Noise Consultation Committee"). While you can still find Koala's patented hip-hop jazz can on the album, it's more Louisiana jazz immersed in a swamp and surrounded by mosquitoes.
