Being an indie band in Canada can't be the easiest thing in the world right now. If a group don't share the dramatic pop sensibilities of Wolf Parade or the Arcade Fire, they're most likely lumped into Weakerthans or Constantines territory. From the sounds of Machines To Paradise, though, Nassau will be safe from such comparisons. The Toronto-based quartet carry the flag for a whole bunch of genres — psychedelic pop, shoegazer drone, blase rock and free-spirited indie. Standout track "Fairies" combines them all, whereas "Epic Skeleton" maintains a slower pace and darker instrumentation. Steer clear of the mosh pit when the band play stomper "The Water Below," and don't be surprised to see up-and-comers being compared to the multi-talented and enjoyable Nassau in the future.
