To say that Quiet Earth is rough around the edges fails to communicate just how primordial Bison B.C. truly are. Quiet Earth rides an impressive line between the guttural thrust and intellectual craftsmanship that's rooted in Mastodon and Baroness' almost tribal rhythmic prowess, and bastardized by an adoration for High On Fire greasy's distortion and apocalyptic sonic abandon of. While the guttural clearly wins out in the long run on these borderline doom metal opuses, the touches of bad acid trip psychedelia and melody provide unusual twists. There are still occasionally juvenile and misguided departures from established grooves that can be awkward and distracting, but Quiet Earth is more proficient and organized than Bison B.C.'s debut effort and displays a band capable of infinite headbanging fury. With a touch more maturity, Bison B.C. may establish themselves as the crucial link between stoner rock and technical metal.
