Avenged Sevenfold

Music Review
This package features a CD of B-sides and unreleased songs from these Metallica wannabe emo kids, while the DVD showcases a gig the Huntington Beach, Calif. band played at the Long Beach Arena during this year's Rockstar Taste Of Chaos Tour.

The CD features a bad Iron Maiden cover and a terrible, off-time version of Pantera's "Walk." It's not like it's difficult to play, since the guitar riff is what, two notes and a string bend? Yet A7X, who are known for their guitar wankery, can't seem to play it properly. Meanwhile, "Dancing Dead" rips off the theme to The Phantom Of The Opera, which has been done by many other people, but really doesn't need to be done any more because it's just tired.

The DVD is a train wreck. Among the terrible things you'll see are screen shots of Avenged Sevenfold sitting naked in a hot tub (unintentionally homoerotic), and some misogyny on a scale I haven't seen in a while. At one point, there's a video projection of a screaming woman with blood on her face, running away from some unknown assailant. She eventually gets pinned up against a tree and continues screaming, and all that's shown after that is waist shot of a man carrying a knife. During the song shown after this episode, strippers are all over the stage. That kind of disrespect for women gets you only one rating in my book: an instant fail.
