As one might expect, Live In Gdansk doesn't really offer up anything new from Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour. But that's not to say it's a bad performance or not captivating. Gilmour's magic and instantly recognizable guitar tone is all over this concert, which features several Floyd classics (including a great adaptation of Atom Heart Mother's "Fat Old Sun") and Gilmour's 2006 disc On An Island played in its entirety. Having Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera on second guitar helps, too. While this disc seems to be celebrating the freedom established in former communist countries since the '80s and how Pink Floyd helped keep that dream alive for the people, it will always be tempered with sadness, since this is probably the last recording with Gilmour's former Floyd mate Richard Wright, who played keyboards on this tour and passed away on Sept. 15.
