I have a beef with All That Remains. Sure, they're one of the few metalcore bands who still put out good records, no matter how generic they may be. And sure, singer Phil Labonte has one of the best voices in the scene. But they're capable of so much more. This band have the talent to create an epic album that goes beyond anything and everything metalcore. For this to happen, they need to step out of their comfort zone. They just seem too damn happy to stay put, tweak a few things here and there, and write a new album. This is no longer enough. As a metalcore album, Overcome is one of the best of the year. But as a metal album, All That Remains could do a lot better. Let's hope that next time you hear a new effort from them, it's the masterpiece they're capable of creating.
