- Tooth And Nail/EMI
- 2 / 5

Underoath have had quite the history. After releasing a couple albums that fell into the death metal-ish category, their sound took a big turn into the generic hardcore field. They've since released three albums and are here with their follow-up to 2006's critically acclaimed Define The Great Line. I think the pressure got to them. The first half of Lost In The Sound Of Separation is heavy, uninspired and sounds like a bad version of the new Norma Jean record. The second half shows the band wasting their (and our) time trying to be melodic. The attempted "epic" ambient closer "Desolate Earth: The End Is Here" is noticeably forced. This same sentiment applies to a lot of the album. It's safe to say you won't get lost in any sound on this record. Even the band members look unenthused on the "making of" DVD.
