Burlington, Ont.'s Saint Alvia were formerly known as The Saint Alvia Cartel. They've since downsized their name, but they haven't given the short shrift to the quality of their tunes. This six-piece continue their experimentation with multiple genres on this sophomore release. "Trouble Keeps Me Busy" bounces along with Joe Strummer inflection in its multiple vocals, while the title track is guaranteed to incite massive skank-offs at shows. "Romeo" (which is about kids worshipping rock stars who are really dicks offstage) could easily fit on Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run. But the package's real gem is "Americafioso," which unloads all its rage against the Security And Prosperity Partnership Of America. (Just google it.) It's been a while since I can remember a band that wrote a protest track that's as effective and as catchy. While at times Saint Alvia sound a little too much like The Clash, there's lots to enjoy here and it's safe to say there'll be no sophomore slump with Between The Lines.
