Beyond The Horizon took me by surprise since People In Planes are a Welsh indie band. I was expecting typical catchy indie pop stuff with something else thrown in so they'd be considered unique. I was wrong. This is heavy. Even the slower songs on the album, like the single "Pretty Buildings," progress into something metallic. While the heaviness was unexpected, it's not the only reason Beyond The Horizon is good. Catchiness, strong singing and good songwriting can be found with distorted guitars — a winning combination in any book. The only issue is length. The album is actually too long. Twelve tracks is pretty standard, but the album feels like it drags on a little too much. Take away a couple songs and Beyond The Horizon would pack an even stronger punch.
