Mixing rock
with electronica is by no means a new concept, but Norway's 120 Days
have found a way to make it seem fresh. Leaning far closer to the
electronic end of the spectrum, the band lay echoing guitars on top of
sparse keyboards and fast-paced beats, evoking an image of snow falling
on some futuristic city. They mix Kraftwerk's robotic, workman-like
rhythms with New Order's Get Ready-era rock sensibility, but also imbue
the album with a post-rock ambience. Some songs (particularly
nine-minute opener "Come Out, Come Down, Fade Out, Be Gone") channel
Explosions In The Sky through an 808. The longer cuts tend to drag, but
these Scandinavian dance-rockers will keep you moving.
