It's unfortunate that
Audioslave are content with merely chucking out radio-friendly arena
rockers and even friendlier ballads, because somewhere behind their
well-milked pedigree lies a badass rock band. However, the only time
that band show themselves is on the title track, and then it's back to
resting on their laurels. As with their last two albums, once you've
heard the first five tracks, you've pretty much heard the record. "One
And The Same" is Tom Morello's last, desperate cry for a Hendrix
comparison, and "Until We Fall" sounds like an alternate take of "I Am
The Highway." It's a bummer because, as much as you want Chris Cornell
to unleash that Superunknown-era wail and really start rocking, it
never happens.
