This
CD captures the same 2003 Austin City Limits performance that came out
on DVD last year, but with some of Case's charming song introductions
removed. She's ably and subtly backed by multi-instrumentalist Jon
Rauhouse, bassist Tom V. Ray and background singer Kelly Hogan, but
Case's voice is the best instrument of all on these 14 songs.
"Favorite" leads things off, and the way the singer holds notes is
something to behold. "Deep Red Bells" is laden with poignancy and "Look
For Me (I'll Be Around)" will give you chills. You might not be able to
listen to Bob Dylan's "Buckets Of Rain" the same way again after
hearing Case's cover. The track selection isn't as strong as at most
shows I've attended, but that's a small quibble when you can just sit
back and let these country torch songs envelop you.
