In
many ways, The Ramones were a bunch of big kids, so perhaps it's not
too surprising that 12 of their songs have been re-recorded by The
Gabba Gabba Heys, a group of kids who contribute on the choruses and
provide backing vocals for this album's dozen guest singers. They come
from a variety of punk bands, including Pennywise's Jim Lindberg,
Alkaline Trio's Matt Skiba, The Donnas' Brett Anderson and TSOL's Jack
Grisham. Members of Goldfinger and Eagles Of Death Metal help out
musically. Some of the arrangements are slightly different from the
originals, and the kids don't detract too much, but there are enough
Ramones compilations around that offer a better listening experience
than this collection. Still, I'd rather have kids listening to this
than most children's performers. And it's for a good cause, as part of
the sales proceeds go to St. Jude's Children's Hospitals.
