Stephen
Malkmus told ChartAttack a couple years ago that Wowee Zowee would
probably be the last of the double-disc Pavement reissues, and that's a
goddamn shame. In addition to the fact that there were plenty of
deserving B-sides and live recordings from the Brighten The Corners and
Terror Twilight eras, these reissues have been anything but a throwaway
purchase for Pavement fans. Wowee Zowee's Sordid Sentinels Edition only
underscores the desire for this series to continue. While most of the
tracks outside the original record will be familiar to completists and
downloaders, having them all in one place makes the set feel like a
treasure chest, similar to the Slanted & Enchanted and Crooked
Rain, Crooked Rain special editions. The material here is a little
weaker than that featured on the first two reissues, but the sheer
quantity makes Sordid Sentinels a must-have for Pavement's loyal
legions.
