Our Lady Peace — A Decade

Music Review
Our Lady Peace
There are a lot of things you can argue about when it comes to Our Lady Peace. You can argue over whether it was 1994's Naveed that defined their early years, or 1997's Clumsy. You can argue that the quality of their music took a nosedive post-2001. You can argue that Raine Maida is a douchebag. But what everyone should agree on, however grudgingly, is that the band made a huge impact on Canadian rock. And though A Decade doesn't seem to be a eulogy for OLP, it seems that the time was right for a retrospective (plus bonus DVD and two unreleased tracks). The obvious path of OLP's musical trajectory is on naked display here. While the first half of the compilation is full of classic singles, the latter shows their shift from razor-edged post-grunge to schlocky, radio-friendly fare ("Life" and "Innocent"). Even so, it's clear that OLP have survived this long for a reason. Give the fuckers their due.
