From the
chunky faux-metal of the opening track, you know Fall Out Boy are
desperately trying new things. Fortunately for them, Infinity On High,
the follow-up to their massive 2005 From Under The Cork Tree
breakthrough, shows that they have a few tricks up their sleeves and
should avoid any post-fame backlash. The album goes in a much more
theatrical direction, straying away from the pop-punk of its
predecessor and offering something with a little more meat in its
compositions. "Golden" and "The (After) Life Of The Party" have a
Broadway feel to them, somewhat akin to their proteges, Panic! At The
Disco. At 14 tracks, the record feels weighed down by uninspired
filler, but Infinity On High has enough hit material for Pete Wentz and
co. to stay in the spotlight just a little longer.
