Yoga, Inc.

Movie Review
Yoga, Inc.
Who knew yoga was such a fascinating topic? From the fervor over its apparent Westernization to Barnaby Harris, the awesome fellow who owns the "F**k Yoga" clothing line, John Philp's intriguing documentary Yoga, Inc. is solid viewing for anyone who's ever attempted downward dog.

High on the list of subjects Philp explores is guru Bikram Choudhary, whose righteous attitude and ridiculous amount of success has spurned naysayers. Even the furor over the fact that he managed to copyright "hot" yoga and has since sued everyone and his uncle if they even deign to use his moves in a class would make a robust film. But Philp takes it one step further and pits the idea of McYoga, the consumerization of an idealized Eastern art form, spiritual practice and philosophy, against the classic, hippie-inspired purveyors who take up the other side of the cause celeb.

Even if it proffers a bit too much of a purely Western point of view, Yoga, Inc. remains fascinating despite what might feel like a classic and even stereotypical presentation of the facts.
