It's no
secret that Canada is home to some of the best names in punk music, and
Winnipeg's Comeback Kid are looking to carry the torch (and shove it
through your skull) with their third effort. The album is their first
without vocalist Scott Wade, but Andrew Neufeld does an admirable job
taking his place. Neufeld's higher, less-throaty scream also fits the
band's more punk-oriented approach. They've stripped away some of the
metalcore aspects of their sound for an old-school hardcore style that
brings to mind Swedish legends Raised Fist. The shift in gears sees
them not only moving away from genre pitfalls, but also becoming a
leaner, more focused outfit, as this is their most concise record yet.
Each year we get a definitive Canadian punk album. In 2007,
Broadcasting... is it.
