It's been
a while since Finger Eleven have been on the scene, and in that time
they've completely revamped their sound. While still sonically closer
to their more organic self-titled record than their heavier early
material,
Them Vs. You Vs. Me has the band sounding revitalized and
more energetic than they were on their last album. There's less clunky
hard rock and more upbeat material, like the Franz Ferdinand-ish opener
"Paralyzer." Vocalist Scott Anderson is clearly in a much sunnier place
this time around, as there's no hoarse yelling whatsoever. Instead, he
provides a more hopeful outlook on "Lost My Way" and the mid-'90s
alternative ballad, "I'll Keep Your Memory Vague." The record's slower
tracks tend to drag a bit, but on the whole, F11's lengthy break seems
to have served them well.
