Korn — Unplugged MTV

Korn
You'd probably assume a Korn unplugged album is a really bad idea. And you know what? You're absolutely right! The interesting sound they've crafted throughout their career that put them at the forefront of their genre is gone. All that's left is mediocre musicianship and the nasal vocals of Jonathan Davis. First track "Blind" begins well enough with some Spanish classical guitar, but all the life is sucked out of the performance as soon as Davis begins singing. Inviting guest vocalist Amy Lee to lend her pipes to "Freak On A Leash" was a good idea on paper, but even her phoned in performance magnifies how inadequate Davis is. The Cure's Robert Smith is also leveraged to assist on "Make Me Bad/In Between Days," a strange mixture of The Cure's classic and Korn's biggest hit from 1999's Issues. Stripping away all the noise, bass, reverb and screaming of Korn basically cripples them as a band. It's puzzling why anyone thought this would lead to anything but disaster.
