Junior Boys have
paid tribute to the low expectations that usually surround remix EPs by
christening their own Dead Horse. Irony aside, it's a decent collection
of remixes, but still pretty formulaic. Here, five remixers from
different dance genres (indie dance, electro, Detroit techno, dubstep
and ambient, respectively) take on tracks from So This Is Goodbye. Hot
Chip immediately raise the bar with a version of "In The Morning" that
sounds more like a cover thanks to added vocals and quirky percussion.
The other remixes are more predictable, but effective. The club banger
of the bunch is Tensnake's synthy reworking of "FM," which practically
turns whispy-voiced Jeremy Greenspan into a house diva. Carl Craig's
predictably epic extension of "Like A Child" spins the song's opening
arpeggio into a minimal, though highly danceable, techno monster.
