Never
ones to be chained to any single genre, the boys in Good Charlotte have
found a new bandwagon to hop onto. Having already tried their hands at
eyeliner-dripping emo with 2004's The Chronicles Of Life And Death,
Good Morning Revival sees them emulating nu-wave bands like The Killers
and The Bravery for a synth-heavy sound still deeply rooted in
pop-punk. It's a calculated move that will win over budding Interpol
fans, but it also befits the group, as the disco beats perfectly match
their poppy melodies. The Madden twins have developed a sort of
critic-proof shield, given their obvious pandering to teen
demographics, so reviewing the album boils down to how catchy it is.
Suffice to say, the guys know how to write a mean hook. One listen to
the fuzzy falsettos on "Keep Your Hands Off My Girl" or the Fray-esque
"Where Would We Be?" and you'll be humming them for days. Of course,
it's catchy like herpes is contagious — it sticks with you forever, but
you certainly won't want it to.
