The first thing
that comes to mind when listening to Funeral For Yesterday is, "Wow,
Kittie still make music?" Yes, the London, Ontario girls are still
plugging away, and someone has to be listening as they're on their
fourth album. Numerous lineup changes and label disputes haven't done
much to change the band's sound, as they're more or less rehashing the
same down-tuned nu-metal they cashed in with on their Spit debut.
Vocalist Morgan Lander seems to have outgrown her growls, as she
focuses more on melody this time around, but her limited range as a
singer makes every song a boring mesh of tired hooks. It doesn't help
that the riffs lack the bite of even the most mediocre modern metalcore
acts, and coupled with Lander's voice, Funeral For Yesterday does
nothing to convince listeners that Kittie are a band to be taken
seriously.
