By
peddling the same redundant strain of modern rock that's been making
the rounds since 1995, it's hard to recommend The Almost. There's
nothing inherently wrong about the music they make, except for the
simple fact that it's exceedingly pedestrian and far, far too familiar.
Their Southern Weather full-length breaks little new ground, recalling
Taking Back Sunday, All-American Rejects and bands of their ilk in the
process. Lead single "Say This Sooner" is a complete snoozer, tossing
out random riffage and yelling without a real objective in sight. The
Almost are Underoath drummer/singer Aaron Gillespie's side project, and
let's not kid ourselves — you would have to be a pretty huge fan of the
Christian growlers to get anything worthwhile out of this snore of a
debut.
