Hilary Duff is no
stranger to the Disney channel demographic, having portrayed Lizzie
McGuire on the eponymous kids' show. But unlike some overexposed
ex-Mouseketeers, she hasn't strayed too far from the family-friendly
image that's made her famous. Call it dignity. That's what Duff has
called her fourth studio record, after all. The album deals mostly with
the past year of her life, which has been a "big growing period" for
the 19 year old. The songs, co-written by Duff, offer insights into her
past relationships ("Finally every tear has dried/I've wiped you from
my life") and chide unscrupulous celebutantes ("Where's your dignity/I
think you lost it in the Hollywood hills"). Though largely a veneer for
her perfume and merchandising campaigns — the video for "With Love" is
also the commercial for Duff's perfume — this dance/techno-themed pop
album is actually moderately enjoyable. Think of it as club anthems you
can listen to in the car with mom.
