Editors — An End Has A Start

Music Review
Editors
If anything, bless Editors for remaining consistent. Aside from frontman Tom Smith's hairdo (he appears to be growing quite the impressive Brit-fro), all four members and their epic sound are intact. Sure enough, "epic" is one of those choice adjectives you can still use to sum up Editors' music, along with "sweeping" and "atmospheric." They're still holding onto their doom and gloom, but now they've injected a healthy dose of wide-scale grandeur on par with an indie Coldplay. The result is an album that's far less claustrophobic than The Back Room, which is particularly noticeable on "Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors" and the title track — even if "The Weight Of The World" goes to show that they haven't sacrificed their aching intimacy for arena anthems. Editors haven't strayed that far from the formula that brought them success in the first place, but the small steps they're taking — bigger production, Smith's brighter vocal tones and far less repetitive lyrics — show an incredible potential for a long, prolific career.
