The
screamo thing has been done to death by now, but if you insist on
listening to this kind of clatter, you could do a lot worse than
Burlington, Ont.'s Silverstein. Their recent Arrivals &
Departures follows the loud/quiet/loud template, yet manages to
interject some serious vocal gravity thanks to lead singer Shane Told.
His boyish vocals stand in stark contrast to the brutish attack behind
him, and it's that contrast that truly allows Silverstein to succeed
where other similar acts fail. Check lead single "Sound Of The Sun" if
you need hard proof that you can simultaneously be loud, obnoxious,
ugly and sensitive, sometimes within the very same stanza.
