One of my favourite
things about Comeback Kid is the way they approach a relatively
stagnant genre with fresh ideas, making it sound a lot less boring than
other bands do. It appears that revitalizing hardcore isn't the only
trick Andrew Neufeld has up his sleeve, as his work on this side
project proves he also has a unique take on post-hardcore and pop-punk.
Those who aren't big fans of CK's melodic moments might want to steer
clear of Sights And Sounds, as Neufeld's vocals don't extend outside of
that style here. Though his singing ability is limited, the music
itself is pretty good, like the spacey atmospherics throughout the EP
and the pianos on "Night Train" (which, unfortunately, is not a Guns N'
Roses cover). It's post-hardcore in the vein of bands such as Lifetime
and Avail, and, while those bands have been mercilessly ripped off,
Sights And Sounds add enough extra spice to make it sound somewhat new.
