Directed by: Chaz Thorne
Starring: Rose Byrne, Jay Baruchel, Graham Greene
There's nothing more irritating than a good idea ineptly delivered. Director Chaz Thorne takes a charming and quirky little concept — neurotic doofus (Baruchel) inherits a funeral home and drums up business by gradually offing people who create problems — and flogs it to death. Billed as a dark comedy, Just Buried manages to take very funny situations and make them unfunny and sometimes boring, with the exception of the priest dressed up in pimpin' gear. The delivery and timing seem a little off and, instead of each peculiar moment popping off in a mountain of chuckles, the build-up never climaxes.
The film spends so much time building up potentially good jokes that it forgets to work on the culmination, which, when it finally comes, is too obvious.
