The tyrants of pop trash are back with their latest stab at staying relevant and to do so they've come up with an album that sounds straight out of 1983. Red Carpet Massacre features a dozen tunes that sound dated in the best possible fashion. Simon Le Bon’s airy vocals are pretty spot-on and the band manages to drag collaborators Timbaland and Justin Timberlake back into their new romantic time machine on deliciously vapid tracks like "Nite-Runner" and the cloying "Falling Down." This music is overproduced and synthesizers abound, meaning this disc should stand as a return to form for fans predisposed to this nonsense. It’s late in the game and Duran Duran are revisiting a formula that works for them, which keeps the legacy intact if nothing else.
