Flight Of The Conchords — Flight Of The Conchords

Music Review
Flight Of The Conchords
Flight Of The Conchords is the comedy and musical project of New Zealand duo Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie. If this is the first you've heard of them, I feel bad for you. But it's not too late to discover their HBO show, where they play two awkward New Zealand musicians living in New York trying to make it big. Their songs, which are interspersed throughout the episodes like those funny J.D. moments in Scrubs, span across folk, rap, pop and R&B, and there's even an ode to David Bowie. The tracks here lie somewhere between the TV show versions and those played in their live act, with acoustic guitars more prominent in the mix. The album isn't just about cheeky lyrics either. The songs are actually really well-crafted. They'll have you laughing and singing along to the French pop of "Foux Du Fafa," the ridiculous rap "Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros" ("There ain't no party like my nana's tea party"), or my personal favourite, "The Most Beautiful Girl (In The Room)" ("You're so beautiful/You could be a part-time model"). Band manager Murray (a.k.a. Rhys Darby) makes a great appearance on the touching "Leggy Blonde," while the popular "Business Time" will have you in knots (or make you horny). This album will have you begging for that second season to start soon.
