Yay! This is the Moby we love! No more crazy vegan punk. No more attempts at singing! No more happy rave techno with opera singers! Last Night is a collection of various dance music styles, all flowing together as one big electronic party. Moby, however has strayed from the genre for a long time now and it shows on this effort. Early songs "Ooh Yeah" and "I Love To Move In Here" are synth-heavy, mid-tempo disco romps, but things move quickly downhill and deteriorate to the level of any average white guy in his basement making bad, keyboard-orchestra-heavy (can't this guy afford a live string section by now?) '90s techno-pop. There are "groovy pianos," wailling diva vocals and chunky high-hat hits blasting all over this mess. Although the idea of a "dance orientated" album was exciting and showed promise with the weird first single "Alice," Last Night sadly proves that Moby is definitely no longer relevant. Heck, there are hardly any songs on here worth licensing to a non-irritating skin soap ad.
