Martha Wainwright

I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too
Martha Wainwright has spoken extensively about standing in the shadows of her family members. I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too proves she has nothing to worry about. Many of the folky songs on Wainwright's 2005 self-titled debut were written long before it was recorded, and she's made huge strides as a songwriter since. "You Cheated Me" is the catchiest, poppiest thing she's written and this disc also has several interesting experiments with backing string parts on "Tower Song" and "Bleeding All Over You." Except for "Hearts Club Band," which seems like it could be directed at her father Loudon Wainwright III, there's definitely no "Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole"-type track to be found. The disc's only problems are the covers of Pink Floyd's "See Emily Play" and the Eurythmics' "Love Is A Stranger." Regardless of its cheeky title, I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too showcases an artist who's not only matured as a songwriter, but who has also put out one of this year's best releases so far.
